Introducing The Burren: Leslieville’s Newest Pub in Toronto!

The Burren – Leslieville’s Newest Pub!

Opens May 4th!!

Irish pub to be exact.

Located on the site of the old Ceili Cottage but with a bigger footprint…much much bigger.

The folks behind this soon to-be hotspot have been hustling hard as construction only started this January. Fast forward five months and we have Leslieville’s newest spot with a capacity for over 100 guests at time.

The Burren’s designers have embraced the history of the site by maintaining the turn of the century gates and fences, reclaimed wood, and old salvaged doors.

What to expect at The Burren in Leslieville Toronto

Walking into the Burren pub for the first time, you’ll immediately notice the oyster shucking station. A massive copper piece surrounds a beautiful Kilkenny limestone top used as the surface to open a range of delicious shellfish from various parts of Canada, and even the West Coast of Ireland – not far from the actual Burren itself!

You’ll also notice a massive, reclaimed wooden mill hanging above the oyster station, illuminating the entire bar. Rustic is definitely the name of the game here at The Burren. The space is covered in copper, reclaimed wood, and stone. It almost feels like we’ve pulled off an Irish mountain road and stepped into a traditional Irish Pub…with a Leslieville twist of course.

The Space at The Burren can accommodate all sorts of uses. From large groups to private date nights, the space is ideal.

The Food

Chef Chris Mentier has been feeding East Enders for nearly 20 years and has created amazing items from deep-fried pate to a phenomenal dessert program. Of course Oysters will be a consistent main feature as one of the owners, Conner Marvin is a competition oyster shucker!

But what about Brunch? You can’t open a bar/pub/restaurant in Leslieville without offering brunch, right? I mean we are the brunch capital of Toronto after-all. Rest assured, The Burren will have an impressive brunch offering. See below for some mouth watering photos.

Bread pudding French toast with house made clotted cream is sure to hit the mark, along with other dishes like a lobster hash, seafood chowder, and the famous Full Irish breakfast rounding out what is sure to be a popular program.

The Burren Food

Oysters will feature heavily. Perfect to pair with a glass of dry white wine or a pint of Guinness! Canadian and Irish oysters will be available from the start, with plans to expand the shellfish program going forward.

The Burren Leslieville

A skate schnitzel provides for a light, flaky white fish with panko crusting. Drizzled with a lemon-caper butter and served with a warm brown butter-sherry vinaigrette potato salad.

The Burren Leslieville Brunch

The deep-fried pâté is a game-changer. Double-breaded in panko, deep-fried, and served with toasted bread, pomerey mustard, and house-made pickled fixings make for a great shareable dish

The Burren’s french toast is made from bread pudding loaf, based on the bread that’s made in-house daily. A chipotle-maple syrup is drizzled all over, with home-made clotted cream to balance out the dish.

Dessert lovers will rejoice. A pound cake with all the elements of a pecan pie provides a surprisingly light and shareable dish. With candied pecans throughout, caramel sauce & cream cheese syrup topped with fleur de sel. This dish is a beautiful combination of sweet and salty and has a perfect balance of textures.

The Drinks

All this talk about food has got me thirsty. Let’s talk beer & wine!

Featuring Guinness and Magner’s Irish Cider, Ontario craft beers dictate the rest of the draught-only line up. Taps from the neighbourhood and all over Ontario allow for a dynamic beer tasting experience, with 11 taps from specific breweries, and 3 rotating to giving any beer-lover something new and interesting every time. A dedicated sour line will keep things current, and a cask-conditioned line will bring you back to the hand-pumped days of old.

The Burren also has the local wine drinkers covered with many Ontario wines in the cellar and many amazing signature cocktails including The Clonmel Mule and many others.

But will they have sports & music?

YES! Near the back of the space at The Burren, you’ll find an area for bands and a large screen for us to cheer on our favourite teams!
