What is the Children’s Discovery Centre Toronto in Liberty Village?

There are over 200 children’s museums in North America and on May 23rd there will be our first with the opening of the Children’s Discovery Centre right here in Toronto at 45 Strachan Ave. This also happens to be right by our new west end office in Liberty Village!

The Museum aka Discovery Centre is a collection of exhibits expertly curated by a team of Early Childhood Development Professionals and Parents with a vision to create a space where children under the age of 6 of all physical and developmental abilities can learn, play, explore, and just experience new and exciting things with each other.

Toronto has experienced a 55% increase in children 0-4yrs living south of Queen since 2006 and 6000 more babies expected in the next 5+ years.

Toronto’s urban planning community, the City of Toronto, and its residents have been asking developers to build more family friendly apartments in Downtown Toronto but we’ve lacked the infrastructure to support our little Torontonians. The urban children of Toronto will now have a place to learn, explore, play, and engage with other amazing urban children. Of course we welcome little suburbanites too! This couldn’t come at a more important time. Toronto has experienced a 55% increase in children 0-4yrs living south of Queen since 2006 and 6000 more babies expected in the next 5+ years.

The Exhibits

There are 10 interactive exhibits from a creative art space, a really cool “mini city” built just for kids, a campground, a “pet vet” experience, and a little foodie experience to mention a few. Follow this link for more exhibit details. I’m 36 and this gets me excited!

Who’s behind this?

You may not know her if you’re not all up in the Toronto development scene but her name is Jeanhy Shim (Google her). Jeanhy is President of Housing Lab Torontoan independent housing research company that that is rethinking how we grow our city by engaging with residents to understand unmet community and housing needs and aspirations. Jeanhy is the perfect leader for this project.
